About Thinkwell
Thinkwell Australia Pty Ltd is the private consulting vehicle of Michael McCann.
Michael was an early entrant in environmental entrepreneurship in the 1980s being involved in several eco-logical business ventures in materials recycling, organic food, environmental technology and ethical investing. He attended his first major scientific conference exploring the impacts of climate change in 1987 and committed his professional life to driving national and international reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from that point.
He developed his project management skills running complex, multi-disciplinary research projects during the 1990s as a founding Director of Energy Strategies Pty Ltd, a Canberra-based energy and greenhouse consulting firm that was central to the early days of development of the Australian National Greenhouse Gas Inventory.
During his decade as the Director for Business Development for Energy Strategies he worked with a diverse range of clients including the Australian Greenhouse Office, the Federal Departments of Industry and Environment, various State Government energy efficiency and environment agencies, the International Energy Agency and numerous industry clients. His broad focus during this period and since has been greenhouse gas reduction opportunities delivered via energy efficiency and new technology.
In the last decade his work has increasingly focused on development and deployment of new technology, and direct emissions reductions of long lived, high GWP industrial gases.
Michael will work on his own on select tasks, but also co-ordinates large technical teams, and is often engaged as the Principal Consultant on tasks via the Melbourne-centred ‘Expert Group’. He is a skilled and experienced writer and public speaker who admits that he is not often very funny, but can generally leave audiences with “something worth thinking about”.
Some of Michael’s current projects and partnerships include Lava Blue, Uniflow Power, Expert Abatement, and an ambitious project to turn Cloncurry in Queensland into an Australian centre for silicon metals production and silicon industries.
